The chemistry works. The pilot lines still don't.
Three pilot-line updates landed this week and they all rhyme. Cell chemistry has stopped being the binding constraint; stacking and sealing throughput has taken its place. The numbers being quoted for pilot-scale yield still sit far enough below automotive requirements that the gap is a manufacturing problem, not a materials one.
That reframing matters for how you read the next year of announcements. Capacity figures quoted in GWh are nameplate, and nameplate assumes a yield nobody has demonstrated at volume yet. The useful signal in any of these releases is whether they disclose yield at all — most don't, and the ones that do are worth reading closely.

A crowded patent landscape gets more crowded
Filing activity around compliant electrical joints continues to cluster tightly around a handful of approaches to slip-ring replacement, which is the sort of density that tends to precede litigation rather than consolidation. Several of the newer filings appear to be defensive.
The research side is moving faster than the IP side, and in a different direction — the interesting work is on contactless power transfer across the joint, which sidesteps the wear problem the patents are all fighting over. Worth watching whether that split widens.
